Kee Klamp® fittings provide a flexible and convenient solution for the construction of tubular structures. This makes them suitable for a wide range of guardrail and safety barrier applications, ranging from protection of engineering and maintenance teams working trackside to handrails for passengers accessing stations.
Kee Klamp® fittings securely join structural steel tube into almost any conceivable configuration across a variety of angles and can easily accommodate on-site variations.
The fittings enable ease of installation and eliminate the need for welding or fabrication, resulting in significant cost and time savings as neither hot work permits, specialist labour, nor specialist tools are required.
The components are installed using a standard hex key, with each fitting incorporating an internal set screw to lock the fitting safely and securely onto the tube to create a strong, stable and safe guardrail structure.

The result is a versatile guardrail or safety barrier that is cost-effective, simply to install and, most importantly, safe and secure.
Products in practice
Kee Systems has installed Kee Klamp® handrails and safety barriers in various locations around the UK, including along the East West Railway route where 8,000 metres of Kee Klamp® fittings and 10,000 units of BoxBolt® were installed to prevent pedestrians and vehicles from straying into off limit areas and to provide safe access to maintenance teams on either side of the railway line.
The project also involved the installation of 56 units of Kee Klamp® culvert headwalls, using a 114-8 off-set design to help accommodate the varying angles on each individual headwall. The versatility of Kee Klamp® fittings helped to meet Network Rail’s design requirement for 1250mm high guardrail achieving a 400 n/m design load for the project.
Kee Klamp® components have also been used on the Brighton mainline to create a handrail and fence safety solution to protect train depot staff. Both Kee Klamp® safety barriers and weld mesh panels were installed on the Brighton element of the Network Rail Thameslink programme to create a metre-high safety barrier from high voltage cables, whilst screening the train depot from litter.
Twin rail safety barriers constructed by Kee Klamp® have been installed along the line as part of the Allington Lane railway improvement works.
As with the East West Railway project, the safety railing for this installation needed to achieve a 400 n/m design load.
Elsewhere railings at the London Bridge station have been constructed from Kee Klamp® tubular fittings and Kee Access® DDA fittings to assist with passenger guidance when queuing at the ticket office, while powder coated Kee Klamp® guardrails were installed at Berkswell train station in the West Midlands to provide safe access to pedestrians in and around the station.
Kee Klamp® fittings are made of galvanised cast iron and manufactured to BS EN 1562 and 1563 requirements. Each fitting can support an axial load of 900kg and incorporates a safety factor of 2:1. The main fittings are TÜV-certified for strength, manufacturing quality and consistency, and are fitted with Kee Koat corrosion protected grub screws and Thredkoat recess protection for superior resistance to corrosion.
Optimum rail safety is one of the main reasons for the specification of handrails, guardrails and safety barriers in the rail sector.
