Greater Anglia has announced a major upgrade to Wickford station starting this September, with completion expected by Autumn 2026.
The train operator was joined by local MP Mark Francois at Wickford station this morning [12 May] where banners were unveiled confirming the timeline for the station improvement scheme, along with an artist’s impression of the new facilities.
The upgrade will deliver several enhancements for customers, including new waiting facilities, a platform awning, ticket vending machines, a new ticket office, and a toilet.
Greater Anglia confirmed earlier this year that Walker Construction had been awarded the contract for the project. Phil Webb, the Managing Director for Walker Construction, also attended the unveiling.
Andrew Goodrum, Infrastructure and Projects Director for Greater Anglia, said: “We are pleased to confirm the planned timescales for the Wickford station upgrade scheme and look forward to delivering the improvements for customers and the local community.”
Mark Francois, MP for Rayleigh and Wickford, said: “I am delighted to be here this morning to unveil a banner confirming that work on the new multi-million pound station at Wickford will begin this September and will complete in the Autumn of 2026. I spent three years lobbying to get this project underway and I am very pleased that, working with Greater Anglia, we are now going to produce a station with a ticket office fit for the 21st century. This is what my constituents fully deserve.”
Phil Webb, Managing Director for Walker Construction, said: “We are proud and privileged to be collaborating with Greater Anglia on this first-of-a-kind hub station. It is forward thinking of Greater Anglia to use modern methods of construction, and this project will significantly improve the passenger experience.”
