As Railway Family Week 2023 draws to a close, charity the Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) would like to offer its thanks to all those who have supported this year’s fundraiser. Companies, teams, and individuals from across the UK rail industry have come together during the week to support RBF; through taking on challenges, bidding in their auction and buying raffle tickets.

Help RBF Reach their Target

RBF is now calling on their supporters for a final push to help them to reach their £50,000 target. Money raised from Railway Family Week is integral to the charity and is needed now more than ever. In the past five years, demand for RBF has more than tripled, with someone in rail reaching out to them every 4 minutes.

The last 12 months have been particularly difficult for the rail industry, and RBF have had their services called on like never before. In 2022, they supported over 1,000 railway people and their families with financial grants, debt advice and legal help: a 25% increase from 2021. In addition, they launched a new Energy Fund to support with the cost-of-living crisis and increase in energy bills.

How your Donations Help

Donating to the Railway Benefit Fund allows them to continue to support people like Hayley, a Customer Service Officer from London.

Six weeks after giving birth to her daughter, Hayley tragically lost her partner to suicide. As a first-time mum, her mental health deteriorated, and she soon found herself getting deeper into debt. Hayley was living in a small room with her baby to reduce her costs, but still struggled to get by each day. At breaking point, Hayley reached out to the RBF.

RBF provided Hayley with a grant to cover her essential bills, necessities for her daughter and furniture to make her space more homely. She said:

“Words cannot describe how grateful I am for the help and support RBF has given us whilst I have been having time off work due to grieving and my mental health. Before this I felt hopeless and worried about the future, but I now have some sense of positivity that things will get easier and that wouldn’t have happened without RBF’s support.”
