Railway Benefit Fund (RBF) is back with its 8th annual Heart of Gold Awards, celebrating the people across the rail industry who quietly go above and beyond for their colleagues and communities.
Nominated by the people who know them best, these are the everyday heroes of rail, the ones who show up, step up, and make life better for those around them, often without expecting anything in return.
“There’s something special about these awards because they come entirely from within our industry,” said Jo Kaye, CEO of RBF. “It’s rail people recognising rail people, colleagues saying thank you to colleagues. That, to me, is what a Heart of Gold really looks like: showing up for each other on the front line, day in and day out.”
This year’s nominations are open across six categories:
- Rising Star Award – Sponsored by Furrer+Frey – for new talent already making a mark in rail.
- Rail Hero Award – Sponsored by Avanti West Coast – for an act of real bravery or selflessness.
- Wellbeing Champion Award – Sponsored by Health Shield – for someone who looks out for their team’s mental and physical wellbeing.
- Star Team Award – Sponsored by Amaro – for a team that pulls together and gets things done.
- Inspirational Volunteer Award – Sponsored by CMAC / Great British Rail Replacement – for a volunteer whose kindness genuinely changes lives.
- Lifetime Achievement Award – Sponsored by Railpen – for a career built on excellence and dedication to rail.
Sponsors will pick the shortlists, and the public will vote in October. Winners will be announced in November, each receiving a personalised award from RBF President Pete Waterman OBE. If you know someone in rail with a heart of gold, now’s the time to say so.
