Chaplin and Stewart join Northern

Northern Rail has appointed three new directors.

Alan Chaplin, 51, joins the business as chief operating officer, having held a number of senior posts with transport organisations, including Veolia Transdev and National Express Group.

Jonathan Stewart, 42, is commercial director. He previously worked in the Middle East running a transport company, having previously worked with First West and North Yorkshire.

Richard Allan has taken on the job of area director for Yorkshire and Humberside, Tyne Tees and Wear, stepping up from the role of assistant area director. A former journalist, Allan, 39, joined Northern as head of communications in 2007.

Ian Bevan, managing director of Northern Rail said: ‘We’re thrilled to announce these recent additions to the Northern team. Alan, Jonathan and Richard are extremely valuable to us and bring with them a broad range of experience, which will be key to us as we drive the business forward over the next two years.

‘With the Department for Transport announcing recently that it has granted a continuation of our Northern franchise, we’re excited about what can be achieved for our customers and stakeholders over the forthcoming months.’
