With the announcement of electrification, the Intercity Express Programme (IEP) and other major developments we are recruiting Movements Controller’s for our brand new Reading Train Care Depot.
The successful applicants will be working for the engineering department and will be trained to be competent controlling the movements of trains in the depot to insure that the required servicing is completed and that the trains are ready to enter service in a timely manner, you will also be trained to drive trains within Reading depot during times of disruption and emergencies. Full rules knowledge will be required and you will be able to undertake full preparation of trains to ensure they are fit for service. Training will be given where required. The post is safety critical and all applicants will be trained to become fully competent in Personal Track Safety.
Movements Controllers must be able to demonstrate excellent safety awareness and communication skills with the ability to learn and follow rules and procedures. This is a demanding job requiring the ability to work alone, remain calm under pressure, and maintain high levels of concentration for periods of time. Planning and controlling possessions for infrastructure repairs and maintenance and reporting and progressing the repair of depot infrastructure including permanent way, signalling, operational telecommunications and radio systems’ overhead line traction power systems in accordance with current rules and procedures
Implementing accident and emergency procedures including investigating and reporting on operational incidents and near misses, interviewing persons involved and witnesses, invoking “for cause” screening as required by company policy on drugs and alcohol and recommending changes and developments to depot operating procedures as required and standing in for the Depot Operations Manager when required.
We are looking for those who have pride in their role, with the ability to act professionally when dealing with all colleagues involved in depot operations. You will also be able to communicate clearly and effectively –including use of the phonetic alphabet, while accepting responsibility and avoiding complacency.
This is a management supervisor role (MS) and as such we are looking for those who are open to improvements, and willing to accept change, while cooperating with others in a positive manner. The ability to lead and support a team, spend some time reviewing your working day and making any necessary adjustments to improve both the team and yourself.
Flexibility and the ability to work shifts are essential. During extensive training you will be required to work flexible shifts and residential training may be necessary. Once fully qualified you must be able to cover shifts which operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
Movements Controllers are required to successfully pass a rigorous Assessment Centre and medical, which incorporates hearing and / visual examination (including colour vision) and a drugs test.
