The Office of Rail Regulation (ORR) is the independent safety and economic regulator for Britain’s railways, working to ensure a safe, efficient and effective service for all its users.
Rail has a big role to play in Britain’s economic prosperity and connectivity. It is an exciting and challenging time for the railways wIth very significant new investment to support economic growth and to link communities. The Government has signalled its intention to give ORR a wider role at the heart of industry efficiency and in improving the passenger experience.
As a full member of ORR’s Board, the Director, Railway Performance will play a key role in these changes. The Director and his/her team will hold Network Rail to account for its performance and for excellence in its management of infrastructure assets, providing expert advice and leadership across ORR to shape and support its work to meet the new challenges it faces across the rail industry.
Candidates will bring significant asset management experience at a senior level in rail or a comparable regulated sector, and a thorough understanding of how regulation can help to drive efficiency and quality of service. The successful candidate will have a strong track record of delivering and influencing change in the private and/or public sector, working with a wide range of stakeholders, and operating at or close to Board level.
