Merseyrail, a joint venture between Abellio and Serco Group,has a 25 year franchise, which runs until 2028. With 66 stations, and 1200 employees the company operates almost 800 trains carrying 100,000 passengers a day across the Merseyside region, achieving industry leading levels of passenger satisfaction. Safety performance is a key metric and this Board level position will play a fundamental role in achieving overall business objectives.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will champion the drive for safety throughout the organisation, engaging with employees at all levels to promote safety in everything they do, leading and directing the business to embed a safety culture. This is a proactive role, contributing constructively to all areas of executive policy and strategy in addition to heading a small team ensuring that the day-to-day standards and performance are at the highest level.

You will have led the safety function in a passenger orientated business, where you have developed a strong safety focused organisational culture, with effective systems and processes that underpin the core business values and objectives. Strong leadership combined with a supportive management style is essential along with a passion for the role that safety plays in delivering successful business results.
